    • PURPOSE: A method for making oxidation protective double coating on carbon-carbon(C-C) composites is provided to give oxidation-resistance and to control coating thickness by using Si powder at a lower temperature than conventional coating method. CONSTITUTION: The oxidation-resistant coating method for C-C composites comprises the steps of: (i) forming a first coating layer on C-C composites by a pack cementation process, thermal treating pack and C/C composites on a graphite mold at 1650-1770deg.C for 4-10hrs and cooling at a rate of 1-10deg.C /min, wherein the pack is composed of SiC : Si : SiO2 in a ratio of 60 : 30 : 10; (ii) coating Si powder(60-325mesh) on C-C composites, being 10-2000micrometer in thickness, through the spraying process using volatile liquids(alcohols) as a vehicle liquid; (iii) thermal treating Si-coated composites between 1400 and 1600deg.C for impregnating cracks formed in the first layer with liquid Si, which results in the formation of SiC and Si layers on C-C composites in turn. Also, a SiO2 layer is optionally formed by thermal treating the Si layer formed at the step(iii) at 400-800deg.C in air atmosphere.

    • PURPOSE: Provided is a method for forming two or more of oxidation resistant films on carbon-carbon(C-C) composites by using Si powder at a lower temperature than conventional coating method.
