    • PURPOSE: Provided is a process for producing a metal dopped silica glass, which is improved in optical property of optical fiber and prevents cracks from taking place by dopping uniformly metal particles such as germanium in the silica glass. CONSTITUTION: The process comprises the steps of: i) hydrolyzing a metal alkoxide; ii) mixing deionized water and more fumed silica than the metal alkoxide to be in a molar ratio of 1:0.1 or less; iii) mixing the hydrolyzed metal alkoxide with the mixture to form sol; iv) injecting the sol into the mold to gel; v) demolding the gel and drying it; and then vi) sintering the dried gel to vitrificate.

    • PURPOSE: Provided is a method for manufacturing doped-silica glass by extruding silica sol composed of colloidal sol and metal alkoxide hydrolyzed under acidic catalyst as a dopant. The resultant silica glass has high purity and high strength, enabling long and large-sized silica rods and tubes. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of: preparing a sol by mixing fumed silica with deionized water to be colloidal silica; hydrolyzing metal alkoxide as a dopant, diethyldiethoxy-germane, having two alkoxide groups under acidic catalyst(dilute HCl or H2SO4); mixing the sol with hydrolyzate, where a gelling agent, as ammonium fluoride, tetramethylammonium hydroxide or formamide, is added; filling an extruder with the sol; gelling by heating under 100deg.C; extruding; drying in a chamber; thermal-treating at low temperature, with HCl, He, H2 or O2 gas flowing for removing impurities in dried gel; sintering at 1400deg.C in He gas atmosphere.

    • PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing a high purity silica glass by using a sol-gel process is provided which produces the large-sized silica glass with maximumly restraining crack while drying the silica glass and improving molding property. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of: (i) preparing a mixed aqueous solution by mixing a monomer of 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidinone and a dimer of N,N-methylenebisacrylamide with deionized water; (ii) mixing the mixed aqueous solution of the step (i) with fumed silica and a dispersing agent; (iii) dispersing the prepared mixture of the step (ii) with using a dispersing agent of tetramethylammonium hydroxide to form a sol; (iv) ripening the sol of the step (iii) at room temperature and removing bubbles from the sol; and (v) adding a polymerizing initiator and a gelating agent to the sol of the step (iv).

    • PURPOSE: A manufacturing method of high purity silica glasses by sol-gel process is provided. The resultant silica glasses having no cracks, and much reduced drying time and shrinkage are applied to large-sized silica glass tubes for optical fiber preforms, semiconductors and optical lenses. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of: preparing a sol by adding fumed silica and dispersant to premix solution obtained from dissolving 2-20wt.% of monomer for forming acrylic resin and 0.05-1.0wt.% of crosslinker into distilled water, based on the amount of premix solution, where the mixing ratio of silica and premix solution is 4:6-6:4, mixing and dispersing and adjusting to pH11-13; defoaming and aging; adding polymerization initiator such as ammonium persulfate, catalyst such as N, N, N', N'- tetraethylenediamine, gelling promoter such as methyl formate, methyl lactate and ethyl lactate, and adjusting to pH9-11; gelling and aging; drying at 20-50deg.C; thermal-treating at 300-700deg.C for 2-8hrs in air, and 800-1100deg.C for 1-8hrs. in Cl2 gas atmosphere for removing organics and hydroxides, respectively; sintering at 1100-1500deg.C for 1-8hrs. in He gas atmosphere.
