    • PURPOSE: An equipment for bending glass plates by static bending roller is provided to shorten time taken during forming and air tempering, and improve productivity of bent glass plates. CONSTITUTION: The method for bending glass plates comprises the steps of: (i) carrying a glass plate(G) into a furnace by a roller conveyor(18) and heating the glass to an effective bending temperature, softening temperature(680-690deg.C); (ii) carrying a heated glass plate(G) to a forming position by several static bending rollers(50) comprising at least one joint for preliminary bending of the glass plate, wherein the curvature of each bending roller is slowly changed according to a carrying direction of the glass plate, and the shape and length of the bending rollers are controlled by each device; (iii) putting the preliminarily bent glass plate to a lower mold(a press ring, 22) and approaching an upper mold(24), and pressing to get glass plate bent to a desirable shape; (iv) carrying the press ring loaded with the bent glass plate to a tempering position(S) of an air tempering unit(16), blowing cold air from an upper(30) and a lower(32) head. The bending rollers consist of cylindrical roller rotating an axis, several roller units attached on the ends of the axis, a flexible coupling connecting between axis of the roller units, and a support member supporting bearings of the roller units freely.
