The detector(310) includes a sensor capable of detecting current applied to a nozzle heater(350) or voltage variation at both ends of the nozzle heater(350). The calculator(320) calculates the amount of ink exhausted through an ink nozzle based on a variation of the nozzle heater(350). The controller(330) controls a maintenance function of a printer based on the amount of ink calculated by the calculator(320).
