    • PURPOSE: Provided is a composition which activates gut immunity and contains, as an active ingredient, high molecular weight of polysaccharides separated from a water extract of orange peel. The high molecular weight of polysaccharides have anticancer effect and activates gut immunity. Therefore it is effectively used as diet and functional foods or pharmaceutical compositions. CONSTITUTION: A water extract of orange peel is obtained in methanol under refluxing to produce a insoluble fraction. The insoluble fraction is dissolved in water and precipitated in ethanol to produce crude polysaccharides. Thereafter, the crude polysaccharide are ultra filtered to produce polysaccharides having a molecular weight of 100,000Da or more. The polysaccharides are subjected to an anion exchange resin column with a 0.2mol sodium chloride solution and then obtained active fractions are subjected to gel filtration chromatography having a separation capacity of 10,000 to 1,000,000.

    • PURPOSE: Provided are low-molecular weight flavonoids extracted from Artemisia absinthium which inhibits acetylcholinesterase(AChE) activity and protecting neuronal cells and an extracting process thereof from the methanol extract of Artemisia absinthium. Therefore, the flavonoids are used for treatment of a degenerative brain disorder, Alzheimer's disease, and improvement of one's memory. CONSTITUTION: The method for extracting 4',5-dihydroxy-3',6,7-trimethoxyflavone from Artemisia absinthium comprises the steps of: fractioning the methanol extract of Artemisia absinthium using organic solvents having different polarities to give fractions; subjecting the fractions to open column chromatography using silica gel to give acetylcholinesterase(AChE) inhibitors; fractioning the acetylcholinesterase(AChE) inhibitors by thin layer chromatography(TLC) to give fractions; separating the fractions by high pressure liquid chromatography using reverse phase column to give 4',5-dihydroxy-3',6,7-trimethoxyflavone.

CONSTITUTION: The method for purifying the intestinal glucose absorption inhibitor isolated from Laminaric japonia comprises the steps of: fractionating the methanol extract of Laminaric japonia with hexane, chloroform, ethylacetate and methanol; subjecting the methanol fraction to 60G column of silica gel using an eluting solvent consisting of chloroform and methanol; fractionating the active fraction with the ODS gel plate and a developing agent consisting of methanol and water; and subjecting the active fraction to HPLC using water and methanol gradient.
