    • PURPOSE: An air-cooled component and a method for forming an integrally formed surface feature are provided to improve the cooling effect of the component by combining the surface feature along an airflow passage of such a component as an airflow enhancement feature. CONSTITUTION: An air-cooled component(10) comprises at least one cooling passage(12) defined by a surface of the component and a surface feature(18). At least a portion of the surface is defined by a composite material comprising at least first and second sets of tows woven together within a matrix material. The tows of the first set are side-by-side to each other. The tows of the second set are side-by-side to each other and transverse to the tows of the first set. The tows of the second set pass over and under tows of the first set. The surface feature is integrally defined at the surface of each cooling passage by inserting members disposed between at least two adjacent tows of the first set of tows. The inserting member has a cross-sectional size larger than the adjacent tows of the first set, to project into the cooling passage relative to an immediately surrounding surface region of the surface feature.
