    • An optical film, a backlight unit, and a liquid crystal display device including the same are provided to improve durability and to enhance luminance of a display by using a prism. A second prism part(120a) is positioned on a base part(110), and has a cross section of a trapezoidal shape. A first prism part(120b) is positioned on the second prism part, and has a cross section of a triangular shape. Material of the first prism part is different from material of the second prism part. The second prism part comprises one among bromine-based compound, fluoren-based compound, or biphenyl-based compound. The first prism part comprises one among urethane acrylate or polybutadiene. A refractive index of the second prism part is higher than a refractive index of the first prism part.

    • A planar light source using a light pipe, a backlight unit and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) having the same are provided to facilitate a fabrication method of a planar light source by combining a point light source or a line light source with a light pipe so as to realize a planar light source. A planar light source(110) emits a planar light for illuminating a liquid crystal panel(200). At least one optical sheet(180) is disposed at one side of the planar light source. The optical sheet receives the light emitted from the planar light source, concentrates or uniformizes the light to provide it to the liquid crystal panel. The planar light source includes a light source unit(120) and at least one light pipe(140). The light source unit provides the light to be inputted to the liquid crystal panel and includes a plurality of LEDs(Light Emitting Diodes)(122) arranged such that optical axes of at least some of the LEDs. The light pipe includes an inner surface having a shape of a plurality of micro-prisms and a flat outer surface. The light provided from the light source unit enters the inner surface and then is emitted through the outer surface. The outer surface includes a light emitting surface that emits the light to be inputted to the liquid crystal panel and is disposed substantially parallel to the liquid crystal panel.

    • A brightness enhancing sheet, a backlight unit having the same, an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) device, and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to perform focus and diffusion of input lights by disposing lens units for focusing lights and diffusion particles on a sheet. A brightness enhancing sheet includes a lens supporting unit(310), plural lens units(320), and plural diffusion particles(330). The lens units are disposed on the lens supporting unit. The diffusion particles are disposed with lens units on the lens supporting unit. The lens units having the same shape are formed as a fly-eye lens. The lens units are formed with a semi-sphere shape. The diffusion particles having smaller size than the lens units are disposed in spaces between the lens units.
