    • PURPOSE: A tilt controlling method and an apparatus thereof are provided to improve the reliability of a recording/playing device by estimating the absolute amount of tilt errors for controlling an active tilt control. CONSTITUTION: A tilt controlling apparatus includes an optical pick-up(100), a signal processing unit(110), a controlling unit(120), a gap servo driving unit(130), a tilt servo driving unit(150), a main controlling unit(160), an interface(170), and a spindle motor. The signal processing unit generates a gap error signal or a tilt error signal. The controlling unit determines whether tilt between a lens unit and a recording media is controlled. The controlling unit transmits a driving signal to a motor driving unit.
