The virtual tools include a turning tool and a milling tool. The tool data is stored for each virtual tool. In the tool data, the angle of B-axis direction at which the tool is positioned when the virtual tool is used is stored as B-axis angle concerning each virtual tool. The tool data of the corresponding virtual tool is read out from the tool file on the basis of the machining instruction by the virtual tool stored in machining program, and the B-axis angle is set on the basis of the tool data so as to execute machining.

    • PURPOSE: A method of controlling lifetime of a complex tool is provided to properly execute control of lifetime of the complex tool installing a plurality of inserts thereon. CONSTITUTION: In a complex tool(21) capable of performing turning machining and milling machining by using a single or simultaneously using a plurality of inserts(22, 23, 25, 26), expiration of lifetime of the complex tool is judged by integrating machining time element every insert, and when expiration of lifetime of at least one insert is judged, judgment is performed in such a manner that the complex tool installing the insert thereon, which expiration of lifetime is judged, reaches expiration of lifetime. When only one insert reaches expiration of lifetime, the machining with the complex tool can be immediately stopped. Then, a lowering of machining accuracy by continuing to use the insert which reaches expiration of lifetime can be avoided. Since the machining time element is integrated every insert, the inserts which reaches expiration of lifetime and others of the same complex tool can be clearly differentiated from one another.
