    • PURPOSE: A method for ensuring a bearer path is provided to cut down equipment charges by carrying out a bearer path guarantee test without the necessity of external transponders. CONSTITUTION: A packet-based IP communication network(10) comprises an IP network(12). An origination part(14a) is connected to a termination part(14b) through the IP network(12). The IP communication network(10) comprises an origination central office(16a) serving the origination part(14a) and a termination central office(16b) serving the termination part(14b). The origination central office(16a) and the termination central office(16b) are typically connected with the IP network(12) through their respective logical ports(19). The origination part(14a) and the termination part(14b) are respectively connected to the origination central office(16a) and the termination central office(16b) by their respective line access gateways(18). Each of the central office(16a,16b) comprises a media gateway(20) for providing a media connection, such as a bearer path(22) that enables communication to be executed between the origination part(14a) and the termination part(14b), through the IP network(12).
