    • PURPOSE: An optical device is provided to decrease deterioration in optical characteristics of optical members irradiated with UV rays. CONSTITUTION: This UV optical device is equipped with optical members irradiated with UV rays. A part or the whole optical members are disposed in a casing(9) having a gas inlet and a gas outlet, and dry air with less than 5000 ppm water content (volume ratio) is introduced through the gas inlet(10) into the casing(9) to blow to at least such optical members that deterioration in the optical characteristics causes serious problems to the members. Thus, changes in the optical members with time can be suppressed.

    • PURPOSE: A light source apparatus and an optical pick-up and recording apparatus are provided to prevent fluctuation of a peak of output beams caused by a nonlinear optical effect of a semiconductor optical amplifier by reducing optical density. CONSTITUTION: An MOPA(master oscillator power amplifier)(5) comprises an MLLD(mode locked laser diode) part(10), a collimation lens(11), an anamorphic prism(12), a condensing lens(13), and an SOA(semiconductor optical amplifier)(14). The MLLD part comprises an MLLD(15) as a semiconductor laser, and an external resonator which comprises a condensing lens(16), a band pass filter(17), and a resonant mirror(18). The condensing lens condenses light from the MLLD on a reflecting surface of the resonant mirror. The emitted light from the MLLD part is incident to a collimation lens wile light is emitted. The emitted light in the MLLD part collimated with the collimation lens is condensed in an incident stage of the SOA. The SOA amplifies and modulates laser light which is incident based on a driving signal.
