    • PURPOSE: A distance measuring device and method using image data are provided to accurately measure the distance to an object included in image data. CONSTITUTION: A distance measuring device comprises a plane equation calculation unit(210) and a distance calculation unit(220). The plane equation calculation unit calculates a plane equation for a part of image data, which is obtained by an image acquisition unit(100), corresponding to the floor. The distance calculation unit calculates the distance to an object from the image acquisition unit by using the image coordinates and the plane equation of the object contacting the floor.

    • PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for detecting video signals, and a method and an apparatus for tracking an object by using the same are provided to accurately detect a face area or eye area from an input image with a little amount of calculation, and strong against changes of an external environment. CONSTITUTION: A video signal detecting apparatus receives a video signal inputted through a camera(110). The video signal in an RGB(Red, Green, Blue) format is converted into a video signal in an HSV(Hue, Saturation, Value) format(120). Face candidate areas are extracted from the video signal in the HSV format by using an on-line training method(130). The face candidate area is decided by grouping and labeling the extracted face candidate areas(140). It is judged whether the decided area is a face area(150). If so, a range of the face area is decided(160).
