    • PURPOSE: A device and a method for transmitting/receiving a digital multimedia broadcast are provided to efficiently transmit a multi-channel audio signal while the device is compatible with an existing digital multimedia broadcast system. CONSTITUTION: A device for transmitting a digital multimedia broadcast comprises the following units. A basic audio stream and a multi-channel audio stream are generated by encoding a basic audio signal and a multi-channel audio signal(610). An information stream generating unit generates the first information stream for describing attribute information and location information of the basic audio stream and the second information stream for describing attribute information and location information of the multi-channel audio stream. A transmitting unit packetizes, multiplexes, and transmits the basic audio stream, the multi-channel audio stream, the first information stream, and the second information stream.

    • PURPOSE: A method and a device for diving a significant object from sound are provided to divide objects which have a meaning from multi-channel audio signal by using virtual sound location information. CONSTITUTION: A virtual acoustic image location information and an audio signal are extracted from a bit stream(210). Based on virtual sound location, an object included in an audio signal is divided(220). Objects of previous frame and objects of current frame which is existing in a virtual sound location are mapped(240). The mapped objects are extracted between continued frames(250). The virtual sound location information is extracted based on the multi channel signal size or is extracted from additional information of a beat stream.
