    • PURPOSE: A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided to prevent erroneous discharge due to the drop of a discharge start voltage by changing a driving voltage if the discharge start voltage is dropped. CONSTITUTION: A first electrode and a second electrode are extended to one direction. A voltage of the second electrode is gradually decreased from a second voltage to a third voltage while applying a first voltage to the first electrode in a rise period of a reset period. In a fall period of the reset period, the voltage of the second electrode is gradually decreased from the second voltage to the third voltage while applying a fourth voltage to the first electrode. A light emitting cell and a non-light emitting cell are selected while applying a fifth voltage to the first electrode in the rise period of an address period. The light emitting cell and the non-light emitting cell are selected while applying a sixth voltage lower than the fifth voltage to the first electrode in the fall period of the address period.

    • PURPOSE: An apparatus for displaying a gray level of a plasma display panel and a method for the same are provided to prevent the auto power control mismatch generated at the sub-field boundary during the application of the variable sub-field algorithm. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for displaying a gray level of a plasma display panel includes an auto power control unit(120), a first and a second frame memories(70,80), a sub-field generation unit(60), an address data generation unit(90), an average signal level adjustment unit(130) and a sustain scan pulse generation unit(100). The auto power control unit(120) detects the average signal level for each image data filed. The first and the second frame memories(70,80) stores the image data for each odd frame and the even frame. The sub-field generation unit(60) generates a gray level data corresponding to the data mapped in response to the number of sub-field determined by the detected average signal level and selectively stores the gray level data on the first and the second frame memories(70,80). The address data generation unit(90) generates an address data corresponding to the sub-field data outputted from the sub-field generation unit(60) and applies it to the plasma display panel. The average signal level adjustment unit(130) compares the number of sub-fields determined by the average signal level of the current field with the number of sub-fields determined by the average signal level of the previous field and selectively outputs the average signal level of the current field and the average signal level of the previous level. And, the sustain scan pulse generation unit(100) generates a sustain pulse and a scan pulse corresponding to the average signal level outputted from the average signal adjustment unit(130) and applies it to the plasma display panel.

    • PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for controlling driving power of a plasma display panel and a plasma display panel thereof are provided to reduce a strained change of luminance by controlling the driving power according to a change rate of load between present input data and previous input data. CONSTITUTION: An average signal level sense portion measures an average signal level of data component(S402). A power control portion calculates a change rate of load(S403). An APC control portion compares an absolute value of the change rate of load with the first reference value(S404). The APC control portion generates sustain discharge pulse information corresponding to a target APC level by referring to the second memory if the absolute value of the change rate of load is more than the first reference value(S405). The APC control portion compares the absolute value of the change rate of load with the second reference value if the absolute value of the change rate of load is less than the first reference value(S406). The APC control portion maintains the previous APC level and generates the sustain discharge pulse information by referring to the second memory if the absolute value of the change rate of load is less than the second reference value(S407). The APC control portion compares the present APC level with a target APC level(S408). The APC control portion generates the sustain discharge pulse information to lower the present APC level if the present APC level is higher than the target APC level(S409,S410). The APC control portion generates the sustain discharge pulse information to elevate the present APC level if the present APC level is not higher than the target APC level(S411,S412). The APC control portion generates the sustain discharge pulse information to maintain the present APC level if the present APC level is equal to the target APC level(S413).
