    • PURPOSE: A circuit breaker is provided to hold a thermal magnetic excess current tripping device on an insulating member and a cover, thereby improving the breaking capacity of the device suitable for automatic assembly. CONSTITUTION: A circuit breaker includes a switching mechanism(51), an excess current tripping device(52), a middle base(2), a movable contactor, a breaking part, a base(3), and a cover(1). The switching mechanism is placed at mutually facing frame plates with a manipulating handle. The excess current tripping device rotates the switching mechanism with detecting an excess current. The switching mechanism and the excess current tripping device on which the switching mechanism is placed are mounted on the middle base. The movable contactor at a cross bar rotates with being linked with the switching mechanism. The breaking part includes an arc extinguishing device(53) cuts an arc between the movable contactor and a fixed contactor(9) being repetitively connected to and separated from the movable contactor. The cover covers the base housing the breaking part, the middle base, and components housed in the middle base. The middle base has a first hole. The first hole is placed at a surface perpendicular to a direction in which the middle base is inserted into the base, and faces the breaking part. A member for forming the excess current tripping device adheres to the first hole. The excess current tripping device at an electrode in which the switching mechanism is not placed is held by the cover, and an insulating member is placed between the switching mechanism and the excess current tripping device.
