    • PURPOSE: An optical film is provided to develop an optical film forming a transmissive, or reflective and transmissive combined type LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) having thin and lightweight structure by efficiently converting the optical path of incident light from a side face direction into a viewing direction. CONSTITUTION: An optical film includes an adhesive layer(12) on one surface of a transparent film(11) with difference in refractive index between itself and a surface layer, and a repeatedly projecting and recessing structure(13) equipped with an optical path converting slope(A1) directed to nearly defined directions at 35-48 degrees. Consequently, the optical film is utilized for a transmissive mode LCD by adhering the film to an LCD panel, arranging an illuminator to the side face and efficiently converting the optical path of incident light from the side face into the viewing direction of the panel. Furthermore, the optical film is utilized for a reflective mode LCD by providing a flat surface part between the optical path converting slopes of the optical film, efficiently making external light incident and reflecting the incident light via a reflection layer.

    • PURPOSE: An optical film and a liquid-crystal display device are provided to obtain an optical film capable of forming a transparent or reflective liquid-crystal display device having a thin-type light property and excellent display quality. A liquid-crystal display device comprises a liquid-crystal display panel and the optical film. The optical film is disposed on one of opposite surfaces of the liquid-crystal display panel so that a surface of the optical film with the light exit units is located outward.

An optical path conversion of side face incident light can be efficiently performed in the viewed direction of the panel by sticking the optical film on the liquid crystal display panel. Incidence of the external light is also performed efficiently, then a good display with both modes of lighting and external light is obtained, and contamination can be wiped away and removed easily.
