    • PURPOSE: A method for preparing carboxy alkyl chitin and chitosan by swelling in an esterifying reagent and adding alkali is provided which makes easy to produce an industrial production because of the high substitution degree of carboxyalkyl group and the solubility in pH area of weak acid and neutral. CONSTITUTION: 10-50 weight% of Chitin or chitosan based on a mixed solvent is dipped in the mixed solvent of organic solvent and water in a weight ratio of 95/5-50/50 and added with 1 to 0.5-15 mole of alkali monochloroacetate or monochloroacetic acid based on the equivalent of glucose acetamine or glucoseamine of chitin or chitosan and added with the same or 1 to 2 mole of solid or liquid phase(preferably liquid phase) alkali per an etherifying reagent and the etherifying reagent at below 40°C. The product can be used for a food, cosmetics, medical, drug, and agricultural material. The etherifying reagent is alkali monochloroacetate, low molecular alkyl monochloroacetate, propyl monochloroacetate, and isopropyl monochloroacetate.

The product can be used for cosmetics, an agriculture, a fiber processing agent, an ion exchanger, an antistatic agent, a coagulant, an adhesive, and ink.

    • PURPOSE: Low molecular polysaccharide and oligosaccharide are prepared by ultrasonic irradiation of the polysaccharide in a solvent. CONSTITUTION: The polysaccharides such as chitin, chitosan, cellulose and its derivatives, starch and its derivatives, glycogen and its derivatives, heparin hyaluronic acid, alginic acid, gum or pectin are dissolved in the solvent selected from sulfonic acid and benzoic acid etc, followed by irradiation of light, ultrasonic, ultraviolet, gamma ray or electron beam to give polysaccharide and oligosaccharide. For an example, 1.5 g of chitosan is suspended in 100 g of ion exchange water, followed by addition of 0.6 g of acetic acid, and swelled at room temperature. Obtained solution is irradiated by high pressure mercury lamp having 190- 340 nm wave length to give low molecular polysaccharide and oligosaccaharide.
