    • PURPOSE: A user authentication method using a user gesture and an apparatus thereof are provided to improve stability and convenience using the signature or the specific gesture of a user as a user authentication means. CONSTITUTION: A user authentication apparatus using a user gesture comprises a user gesture sensing unit(10), a controlling unit(20), and a storing unit(30). The user gesture sensing unit senses the gesture of a user. A user gesture is a user movement with the specific pattern. The user gesture sensing unit is formed with a touch input device which includes a touch pad and a touch screen. The controlling unit extracts the feature of the user gesture which is detected from the user gesture sensing unit. The controlling unit authenticates the user by comparing an extracted feature with the feature of the pre-registered user gesture. The controlling unit includes a feature extracting module(21) which extracts the feature of the user gesture and a feature comparing module(22). The storing unit stores the feature of the pre-registered user gesture.
