    • PURPOSE: A portable direct carbon fuel cell is provided to avoid a separate power supply unit for operating a fuel cell through an impact-type battery operation unit, and to stably produce electricity in emergency regardless of places. CONSTITUTION: A portable direct carbon fuel cell comprises: a battery structure(10) equipped with a carboneous negative electrode, molten electrolyte and a positive electrode; and a battery operation unit(20) which is arranged at the outer side of the battery structure and has at least a heat energy holding unit(26). A method for operating the direct carbon fuel cell comprises the steps of: providing the direct carbon fuel cell; burning inflammable materials included in the heat energy holding unit to melt the molten electrolyte; and proceeding redox reaction between a cathode and an anode to produce electricity.
