    • PURPOSE: A magnetic recording head and a magnetic recording/reproducing device are provided to form one pair of side magnetic shield layers on both sides in track width direction of a magneto-resistance effect film, and to optimally set intervals between the side magnetic shield layers and track width direction sections of the magneto-resistance effect film, thereby realizing a high surface recording density. CONSTITUTION: A magneto-resistance effect film is disposed between an upper shield layer(31) and a lower shield layer(32). One pair of electrodes are electrically unified with the magneto-resistance effect film. One pair of side shield layers consisting of portions of the upper shield layer(31) are formed on both sides of the magneto-resistance effect film. Intervals between the side shield layers and the magneto-resistance effect film are formed, being narrower than double intervals between the upper shield layer(31) and the lower shield layer(32).
