    • PURPOSE: A recoil starter is provided to accumulate sufficiently large rotating force in a damper spring, not to damage on a plastic component and to reduce the weight and the size. CONSTITUTION: A wire member to form a damper spring(14) has a sectional shape to be formed at least one sides in straight. The damper spring is formed by rolling the wire member in a coil shape. The inner side of the damper spring is firmly rolled in outer faces of boss portions(19,20). Thereby, the large displacement of the damper spring is suppressed when the excessive load is generated in an engine.

    • PURPOSE: A recoil starter is provided to obtain sufficient strength without increasing the thickness of a rope reel and to reduce the size and weight. CONSTITUTION: A recoil starter comprises a starter casing(1) having a reel shaft(2) arranged coaxially with a crankshaft of an engine mounted with a driving pulley(11); a rope reel(4) having a drum part(4a), around which a recoil rope(3) is wound; a recoil spring(6) rotatably pressing the rope reel in a rewinding direction of the recoil rope; a ratchet member(8) arranged to the side of the rope reel and combined with the driving pulley; and a control member(15) rotatably attached to the reel shaft in a state of having rotation resistance to detachably come in contact with the ratchet member. The rope reel is rotatably supported to the reel shaft. The ratchet member transmits the rotation of the rope reel to the driving pulley. If the rope reel is rotated in a starting direction of the engine by pulling the recoil rope, the ratchet member is combined with the control member and is rotated in a state of projecting in the outer diameter direction, and the ratchet member is combined with the driving pulley and the driving pulley is rotated integrally with the rope reel and thus the engine is started. The ratchet member is formed by bending a material of a circular section. The ratchet member is pivotably supported on the side of the rope reel.
