    • An aperture variable inspection optical system is provided to allow the size of radiation spot to be changed without replacing an aperture unit by including a variable aperture unit and a light collecting optical system. An aperture variable inspection optical system, which performs optical measurement by projecting light of a measurement light source(11) on a sample and receiving light from the sample, comprises a variable aperture unit(13) and a light collecting optical system. The variable aperture unit includes a light transmission section whose size is variable. The light collecting optical system forms a radiation spot of light that passes through the variable aperture unit at the position of the sample. The variable aperture unit comprises a first aperture opening/shutting mechanism including a couple of slide plates having edges opposed to each other and a second aperture opening/shutting mechanism including another couple of slide plates having edges opposed to each other, and the first and second aperture opening/shutting mechanisms are disposed so as to cross each other at a predetermined angle.
