    • PURPOSE: Provided is a piezoelectric element capable of realizing a high performance oscillator with excellent thermal stability in the piezoelectric element for exciting third thickness vertical higher harmonic vibration. CONSTITUTION: This piezoelectric element(10) is provided with a piezoelectric body substrate(12) and the piezoelectric body substrate(12) is formed of a piezoelectric material containing Sr, Bi, Nb and O as main components. On both surfaces of the piezoelectric body substrate(12), vibration electrodes(14,16) are formed. In an area where the vibration electrodes(14,16) are overlapped between the electrodes, an energy confining area is formed.
