    • PURPOSE: A method and apparatus routing Internet calls are provided to decrease the congestion of a public switched telephone network caused by the long holding time of Internet calls. CONSTITUTION: A telecommunications network(10) includes a public switched telephone network (PSTN,12) and an Internet data network(14). The Internet data network (14) includes a line access switch(26) coupled to the PSTN and an Internet routing element(24) acting a switching function for Internet calls rerouted from the PSTN(12). The Internet routing element(24) is coupled to end office switches(16) and local switches(18) of the public switched telephone network(12) by modem trunks(30). The modem trunks(30) provide the Internet calls rerouted from the PSTN(12) to Internet routing element(24) in order to prevent the Internet calls from congesting trunks(22) of the PSTN(12). The Internet calls are received at an ATM multiplexer(58) within the Internet routing element (24). The ATM multiplexer(58) includes a pool of modems(60) that converts the analog signal on the modem trunks (30) into digital data. The ATM multiplexer(58) includes an ATM cell adaptation unit(66) that converts the digital data into ATM cells for transmission to an Internet Service Provider(42) over an ATM network(48). The ATM multiplexer(58) generates addressing information for the ATM cells through interworkings with signaling protocols of a signal transfer point network(28) and an SS-7 signaling network(44) in order to determine the destinations for the Internet calls. The line access switch includes a similar ATM multiplexer(94) to reroute Internet calls prior to entering the public switched telephone network(12).

CONSTITUTION: A DSLAM(22) receives a signal transmitted from a terminal(21), and multiplexes the received signal. An NAS A(23) receives the multiplexed signal, and integrates the received signal in transmissible type applicable to a backbone(24). An NAS B(25) sets a new PPP session with the terminal(21) when the NAS A(23) fails, and assigns a dynamic IP address. A subscriber connection DB(26) is assigned with IP addresses from the NAS A(23) and the NAS B(25), and stores information on the terminal(21). The backbone(24) collects signals transmitted from the NAS A(23) and the NAS B(25), and quickly transmits the collected signals.

A concentration shelf DSLAM(200) is installed in the telephone office and connects to the unmanned DSLAM(100) through the optical cable for receiving a plurality of ATM data from the unmanned DSLAM(100), concentrating the ATM data as an STM-1(Synchronous Transfer Mode-1) level, and transmitting the concentrated ATM data to an ATM switch(2). The AUCA receives an RF signal through an FEU(Front End Unit)(10) in a base station DSLAM system and converts an UHF local signal from the main signal generator part into a low frequency and then outputs it to a DDCA(Digital Down-converter Card Assembly)(40). The ADCA receives the low frequency signal through the DDCA and converts the UHF local signal and an IF local signal from the main signal generator part into RF signals and then outputs them to the FEU. The main signal generator part generates the UHF local signal and the IF local signal and then outputs them to the path selection part. The redundancy signal generator part generates the UHF local signal and the IF local signal, and outputs them to the path selection part if an active state signal is output from the control part. The control part outputs a driving control signal to the redundancy signal generator part if an error is occurred in the main signal generator part. And the path selection part receives a path selection control signal from the control part, and outputs the UHF local signal and the IF local signal from the redundancy signal generator part to the ADCA or the AUCA.

    • PURPOSE: An ADSL multiplexing apparatus is provided to facilitate receiving a few ADSL subscribers economically and its extension by using a low speed network interface, enable an effective utilization of a transmission band width and be suitable to accommodate small capacity ADSL subscribers by effectively performing a high speed data service by using a twisted pair copper line. CONSTITUTION: A power supply unit(10) converts an inputted common AC power into a DC power, converts the DC power into a DC current required for each block and supplies the drive current to each block. A controller(20) is driven by the power supplied from the power supply unit(10) and controls and manages the whole operation. A splitter(30) is connected to a subscriber line and a PSTN exchanger line, and frequency-division multiplexes an analog modulation signal and an analog phone signal received from the PSTN exchanger and filters them. An ADSL interface(40) multiplexes a plurality of ADSL modulation data stream obtained from the splitter(30) to an ATM cell data, and demultiplexes a plurality of ATM cell data transmitted from an E1 network. An ATM traffic processor processes the ATM traffic transmitted from the ADSL interface and transmits it to the E1 network, and processes the ATM cell transmitted from the E1 network and transmits it to the ADSL interface(40). An E1 interface(60) transmits the ATM cell transmitted from the ATM traffic processor(50) to the E1 network, extracts the ATM cell transmitted from the E1 network, and transmits it to the ATM traffic processor(50).
