摘要： The present invention provides scanning mechanisms for imaging probes using for imaging mammalian tissues and structures using high resolution imaging, including high frequency ultrasound and/or optical coherence tomography. The imaging probes include adjustable rotational drive mechanism for imparting rotational motion to an imaging assembly containing either optical or ultrasound transducers which emit energy into the surrounding area. The imaging assembly includes a scanning mechanism having including a movable member configured to deliver the energy beam along a path out of said elongate hollow shaft at a variable angle with respect to said longitudinal axis to give forward and side viewing capability of the imaging assembly. The movable member is mounted in such a way that the variable angle is a function of the angular velocity of the imaging assembly.

Additionally, a contact device (24) is employed for using the eye to establish a reference datum. Further, an optical detector (32) is coupled to the beam, path of the surgical laser (12) to create a sequence of cross-sectional images. Each image visualizes both the reference datum and the focal point (20). Operationally, a computer (34) then uses these images-to position and move the focal point (20) in the treatment area relative to the reference datum for surgery.

An optical fiber probe capable of performing side imaging comprises a photonic crystal fiber(101) and an optical fiber lens. The optical fiber lens is generated by removing an air hole inside a heated region after heating a predetermined region including one end of the photonic crystal fiber. The optical fiber lens performs a side imaging by expanding a light progressed according to a core of the photonic crystal fiber.

摘要： An apparatus and method are provided. In particular, at least one first electro-magnetic radiation may be provided to a sample and at least one second electro-magnetic radiation can be provided to a non-reflective reference. A frequency of the first and/or second radiations varies over time. An interference is detected between at least one third radiation associated with the first radiation and at least one fourth radiation associated with the second radiation. Alternatively, the first electro-magnetic radiation and/or second electro- magnetic radiation have a spectrum which changes over time. The spectrum may contain multiple frequencies at a particular time. In addition, it is possible to detect the interference signal between the third radiation and the fourth radiation in a first polarization state. Further, it may be preferable to detect a further interference signal between the third and fourth radiations in a second polarization state which is different from the first polarization state. The first and/or second electro- magnetic radiations may have a spectrum whose mean frequency changes substantially continuously over time at a tuning speed that is greater than 100 Tera Hertz per millisecond.
