    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device and a discharge lamp which can improve lighting performance.SOLUTION: A light source device comprises: an aperture member 3; and a shield electrode 4 having a first chamber and a second chamber divided by a partition plate. A cathode 1 is disposed in the first chamber of the shield electrode 4. The first chamber and the second chamber are communicated with each other via a second opening H2 which is disposed in the partition plate, and is located on a discharge path between the cathode 1 and the aperture member 3. The second chamber has a third opening H3 at which the first opening H1 of the aperture member 3 is located, and a fourth opening H4 for light emission. One end of the partition plate of the shield electrode 4 is fixed to a support part 11 comprised of an insulator. A voltage trigger-type switch switches the potential of the shield electrode 4 to either ground potential or floating potential.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase radiation light intensity of a deuterium lamp having continuous spectrums in an ultraviolet region including vacuum ultraviolet and enable irradiating a large area at high irradiance.
      SOLUTION: An electrode pair 7, 8 situated outside a tubular discharge container 1 which transmits ultraviolet rays is covered with dielectric material and is pierced into the discharge container 1. A shielding box 2 having a partition wall 3 between the electrode pair 7, 8 is situated in the discharge container 1. Deuterium, hydrogen, a mixed gas containing deuterium or a mixed gas containing hydrogen is sealed in the discharge container 1 as discharge gas. A slit 4 elongated in an axial direction of the discharge container 1 is formed in the partition wall 3 to narrow a discharge path generated between the electrode pair 7, 8. The slit 4 makes a luminous point continuous and eliminates limitation in a longitudinal direction of the lamp. When a high voltage sine wave is applied between electrodes 7, 8, dielectric material barrier discharge is generated and ultraviolet continuous spectrum light of high irradiance is obtained in a large area.
