    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head in which effective magnetic gap length of a magnetic head changed by sliding of a magnetic tape and a magnetic head is stabilized and which has a good recording and reproducing property even after using for a long time, and a magnetic recording and reproducing device using this magnetic head.
      SOLUTION: The magnetic head 4 has a pair of magnetic core half bodies 11, a pair of metal layers 10 at an opposite part of the magnetic core half bodies 11, and a magnetic gap layer 9 provided between metal layers, wherein the pair of magnetic core half bodies 11 is shielded by a mold glass 12, and thickness of the magnetic gap layer 9 is made narrower gradually from the surface of the magnetic head 4 to the prescribed depth.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a magnetic head in which gap width is extremely stable, crack and breakage are not caused in a gap part, an air bubble is not caused in the gap, and which uses a high quality metallic magnetic film.
      SOLUTION: In a magnetic head in which compound magnetic cores constituted of the metallic magnetic film 1 are joined via a gap material 2, the first layer of the gap material is formed by the non-magnetic oxide film of a main component SiO
      2 being a spacer layer 3, after that, heat treatment is performed. A second layer is formed by a non-magnetic metallic film or a metal oxide film being a barrier layer 4, a third layer is constituted of a non-magnetic glass film being a joining layer 5, the gap is formed by being joined by the glass film of the third layer by heat treatment, and the magnetic head having high quality and high gap width precision can be manufactured.
