    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical rotary encoder capable of aligning accurately and easily a rotary side slit and a fixed side slit, and a light emitting element and a light receiving element for detecting those, and allowing easily assembling.
      SOLUTION: This optical rotary encoder is constituted of a housing 12 having a circular hole 18 inserted with a rotary cylindrical body 37, a rotary disk 32 provided with the rotary side slit 33 and fixed to the rotary cylindrical body 37, and a fixedly arranged circular circuit board 42, the housing 12 includes an aligning pin 19 implanted in a prescribed position set using the center position of circular hole 18 as a reference, a fixed slit plate 23 positioned fixedly via the aligning pin 19, to position the fixed side slit 24 in a faced position faced to the rotary side slit 33, and the light emitting element 21 arranged in an under side of the fixed slit plate 23, and the circular circuit board 42 includes an engagement protrusion piece 44 for facing substantially the light receiving element 45 to the light emitting element 21, when engaged with a positioning groove 16 provided in the housing 12.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy in determination of the operation abnormality of a rotary encoder even when there is nonuniformity in an operation initial value of the rotary encoder according to individual specificity thereof.
      SOLUTION: This method relates to the rotary encoder 11 for which an operation abnormality determination program for determining the operation abnormality when an operation state detection value changes from the operation initial value to a value (abnormality determination value) being apart at a prescribed range from the initial value, is set. In order to improve the accuracy in determination of the operation abnormality, the rotary encoder 11 is equipped with CPU 37 which executes the operation abnormality determination program and with a flash memory 39 which stores the program rewritably. At the time when the initial value (first initial value) written in this program differs from an initial value (second initial value) obtained by external measurement, the initial value to be written in the program is changed from the first initial value to the second and also the abnormality determination value is changed from the second initial value to a value being apart at a prescribed range therefrom.
