    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass ceramic bead whose surface is excellent in durability and which has a crystal phase of one or more titanium oxides selected from the group consisting of an anatase type, a rutile type and a brookite type or an inorganic titanium phosphate compound and to provide a photocatalytic functional member containing the glass ceramic bead.
      SOLUTION: The glass ceramic bead includes one or more kinds selected from among TiO

      3 , RTi
      4 (PO
      4 )
      6 and these solid solutions as the crystal phase. Furthermore, it is favorable that the TiO
      2 crystal of the anatase type is contained and photocatalytic characteristics are based on these crystals. The glass ceramic bead which does not form a photocatalytic functional layer by embrocation, coating or the like and where a material itself composing the bead has photocatalytic characteristics is utilized semipermanently without the anxiety of degradation by the peeling or the like of the functional layer.

SOLUTION: The glass ceramic includes RnTi 2 (PO 4 ) 3 , RTi 4 (PO 4 ) 6 or any of these solid solutions and TiO 2 , preferably one or more TiO 2 crystals selected from the group consisting of the anatase type, the rutile type and the brookite type, as the crystal phase, and has photocatalytic characteristics based on these crystals. The glass ceramic is produced by the method having a step to obtain a glass melt or glass by mixing and melting raw materials and a crystallizing step to hold the melt or the glass at a temperature to generate and grow crystal nuclei.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a glass ceramic where the glass ceramic whose surface is excellent in durability has one or more titanium oxide crystal phases selected from the group consisting of an anatase type, a rutile type and a brookite type and to provide a photocatalytic functional formed body and a hydrophilic formed body containing the glass ceramic produced by the method. SOLUTION: The glass ceramic includes, in mol%, 15.0% or more and 90.0% or less TiO 2 ingredient, 10.0% or more and 85.0% or less P 2 O 5 ingredient to the total amount of the glass ceramic having a composition in terms of an oxide. The method for producing the glass ceramic includes: a melting step to mix raw materials and obtain a molten liquid; a cooling step to obtain a glass body by the cooling of the molten liquid; a reheating step to raise the temperature of the glass body up to a range beyond glass transition temperature; and a crystallization step to generate a crystal by keeping the temperature of the glass body within the temperature range.
