      SOLUTION: The electric power steering device is provided with the three-phase line (U, V, W phase); the three-phase motor 4; and a semiconductor switch element 3a. The three-phase line (U, V, W phase) is connected to the three-phase motor 4 respectively. Further, the semiconductor switch elements 3a are three and every one is arranged in every phase line (U, V, W phase).

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control so as to prevent deterioration in motor efficiency by interrupting a drive current, when an atmospheric temperature estimated by a motor temperature estimating means exceeds a first predetermined value. SOLUTION: A microcomputer 7 of the motor controller incorporates a control unit 8, a motor output portion 9, a temperature estimating means 10, a temperature determining means 11, and a motor stopping means 12, and the temperature-estimating means indirectly estimates a temperature based on the time of energization of first-, second- and third-phase stator coils 2a, 2b, and 2c of a motor 2. The temperature determining means 11 determines whether coil temperature data obtained through the temperature estimating means 10 exceeds a first predetermined value. If it is determined that the first predetermined value is exceeded, the temperature determining means generates a motor stopping means on command signal to turn on the motor stopping means 12 and provides the control unit 8 with a motor output stop command signal to cause the motor 2 to stop. Thus a control for avoiding deterioration in motor efficiency is exercised without damages to the devices surrounding the motor.

    • PURPOSE:To immediate start a motor after it is stopped, and to improve production efficiency by so controlling it as to stop it at restart enabling temperature or lower. CONSTITUTION:After a motor stop command is generated, temperatures TR-TT of the layers R-T of a motor stator are read, and a maximum value TMAX of them is judged. Simultaneously, atmospheric temperature TA is read, and a restart enabling stator temperature TSV obtained by adding the restart enabling stator temperature rising value T of a motor is determined. Here, the value T is determined in advance by the model number of the motor, the type of insulator, etc. Here, the temperature TMAX is compared with the TSV, if the TMAX =TSV, this step is again repeated, the motor is operated without load, and air-cooled by its own fan. As a result, even if the motor is restarted immediately after the motor is stopped, it can be restarted without damaging its stator.
