    • PURPOSE:To easily read the displayed content of a liquid crystal message board without being related to an increase in cost and to take out the contents to the outside by taking the information displaying state of a liquid crystal segment under lighting as an image and converting the image into an electric signal. CONSTITUTION:When a message is displayed on the LCD display part of a pocket beeper, a light emitting source 21 is turned on and an LCD segment is illuminated. In this state, an image scanner part 23 is driven and an image is read by an incorporated sensor. The image data read by an image scanner part 23 is serially transferred as the size of electric charge amount to a memory 27. Namely, the transferred data is successively stored in the image data memory 27. Next, in the case of numerical information, the information is converted into numerical data in a character recogntion part 28. Namely, after the data read by performing a soft scaning for the memory is compared with incorporated numerical pattern, a figure to be a displayed character is determined. The numerical data is transmitted to other devices via a serial I/O and a parallel I/O.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a character recognizing method which can simply recognize the handwritten numeric characters by means of an image processor. CONSTITUTION:A recognition pattern consists of windows (1)-(7) of a prescribed shape which are set each intermediate position of 7 segments forming a shape that connect together the middle points of both longer sides of a rectangle. Thus numeric characters 0-9 are defined by combinations of those windows. For instance, the numeric character 1 is defined by windows (2) and (3), and the numeric character 7 is defined by windows (1), (2) and (3) respectively. Meanwhile a guide pattern of each window combination shape is printed on a form as a target of description, and the point of description is decided by each definition. When the numeric character 1 is described, for example, two serial segments where the windows (2) and (3) are formed are used as the targets of description. The recognition pattern is put on each character for detection of the presence or absence of the line element of each window. If the line elements are included in the windows (2) and (3) only, it is decided that the numeric character 1 is described. Thus the handwritten numeric characters can be accurately recognized despite the variance of description.

    • PURPOSE:To provide an embossed code reader for exactly reading an embossed code regardless of the presence/absence of a hologram seal by providing a read control means for performing reading again while reducing a reading light quantity so as to read the seal part when it is detected that the hologram seal is stuck on the surface of a card. CONSTITUTION:A hologram detection part 18 detects whether the hologram seal is stuck or not from a read detection signal, the quantity of light is suitably switched corresponding to the result and read data after switching at that time are processed by a data switching part 19. In this case, when the hologram seal detection part 18 detects no hologram seal in the case of reading the embossed code, reading is completed once since a CPU 11 can read the surface of the card with the normal quantity of light. When the hologram seal detection part 18 detects it, the embossed code is read by executing the second reading while reducing the reading light quantity since the surface of the card, to which the seal is stuck, can not be read with the normal quantity of light.
