    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sundial high in accuracy, common in any country on the earth and making the rising and setting positions of the sun and days of the four seasons recognizable like a season calendar in a narrow place by looking from the places of the winter solstice, the summer solstice and each object day of optional days. SOLUTION: A sundial machined into a cylinder 1 of 1m in length and 3cm in diameter is fitted being adjusted to the celestial pole. Supports 3 are provided in positions of 1m on a track right-angled to the cylinder from the place of the vernal- autumnal equinox 4 in the middle of the cylinder, at one-hour intervals so as to divide a circular arc 2 by 15 deg.. The supports 3 are fixed at intervals of 23.45 deg.=0.433775m to an upper winter solstice point 5 and a lower summer solstice point 6 from the vernal-autumnal equinox 4 in the middle of the cylinder. Among these supports, optional observation graduations 7 indexed by 91 days are vertically inscribed in regular order from the middle. The sun appears to move along the circular arc from the inscribed object day so as to become the sundial. This sundial is usable in any place on the earth without needing a large place. Even the rising and setting positions of the sun can be accurately recognized at the time of looking from the places of the winter solstice, summer solstice and an optional day.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a top type sundial which can be understood easily by specifying the intersection of a projection rod and a dial, and the graduation equal to those obtained by translating a flat sundial at a latitude remote from the pole thereby eliminating the difficulty at the time of reading the graduation. SOLUTION: The top type sundial comprises a dial 1 where the north face side (summer season side) is perpendicular to a projection rod 4 just like a conventional one but the south face side (winter season side) is inclining by 70 deg. against the projection rod 4. The south face dial 1 is provided with graduations at latitude of 70 deg.. When the sundial is installed in accordance with the latitude and longitude of setting point, an adjusting screw 3 is fixed to a surface 2 being cut off in order to eliminate substantially upper half of the dial 1 having no relation with the projection rod 4. The length from a point 6 where one end of the projection rod 4 touches a horizontal base 5 to the point 7 of screw 3 is adjusted such that the angle between the projection rod 4 and a horizontal plane matches the latitude at an installing place and then the screw 3 is tightened. More specifically, a flat sundial at a different latitude is translated thus eliminating the difficulty at the time of reading the graduation thus facilitating the understanding.
