    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a break mechanism which is small in size and light in weight, adoppts a non-contacting system, and can easily apply a brake torque to a sliding body without supplying any electrical energy from the outside. SOLUTION: The brake mechanism 7 for braking a needle bar swinging shaft 11 in a sliding mechanism 14 having swinging shaft 11 and a sliding bearing 8 for supporting the swinging shaft 11 in a slidable manner is provided with: a magnet 30 which is mounted on a surface part at the prescribed place of the swinging shaft 11 and to which a plurality of magnets whose magnetic fields face a radial direction with respect to the shaft core of the swinging shaft 11 are polarized; and a coil 34 for power generation arranged with a prescribed interval to the magnetic body 30. By short-circuiting the coiling start end part and the coiling finish end part of the coil 34 are short circuited to prevent occurrence of electromotive force generated by electromagnetic induction occurring at the coil 34 with the reciprocating operation of the magnets mounted to the swinging shaft 11 to show braking action to the swinging shaft 11.
