      SOLUTION: A looper 3 for forming a stitch in cooperation with a needle is disposed below a needle plate 4, and a first needle guard 7 is disposed below the looper 3 to be moved forward and backward in association with the spindle. The first needle guard 7 is provided with a needle guide portion 6 for guiding the movement of a needle when the looper 3 hooking a needle thread loop. A second needle guard 8 is provided below the needle guide portion 6. Therefore, an inconvenience by a contact of the needle with the hook 15 can be beforehand inhibited.

The linkage bar 45 of the presser-foot 43 is pressed down with a compression spring 44A composing of the spring mechanism 44 and held in the support 40 with a stopper 44B. The assembly of the presser-foot 43, the thread guide and the needle 33 can be operated by a cylinder type operation mechanism. The superposed plies of thread comprising warp plies and weft plies are mechanically compacted with the presser foot 43, and the needle 33 is vertically moved to penetrate the thread F in the superposed plies of thread, thereby forming the sheet-like reinforcement without weaving warps and wefts.
