    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a titanium or titanium alloy base material which is suitable as a metal sheet material used for a separator of a solid electrolyte fuel cell, and from which noble metal plating is less liable to peel. SOLUTION: The method for plating the titanium or titanium alloy base material with a noble metal is provided which includes: a first step of allowing an oxidizable compound to exist on the titanium or titanium alloy base material; a second step of plating the titanium or titanium alloy base material obtained at the first step with the noble metal; and a third step of baking the noble metal plated titanium or titanium alloy base material obtained at the second step in an air atmosphere at 200-600°C and a rate of temperature rise of 10-20°C/min.
