    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quenching method which can reduce the distortion that occurs while being quenched, by inhibiting ununiform cooling (cooling unevenness) from occurring in each which has been immersed in a cooling liquid.
      SOLUTION: This quenching method includes: three-dimensionally arranging a plurality of workpieces 7 which are heated to a quenching temperature, in a mesh-like tray 8b of a mesh-like basket 8, in such a transversely-placed state that both end faces direct upward and downward; immersing the above basket 8 into a cooling liquid 2 which flows from the bottom part of a cooling tank 3 towards the upper part, by lowering the above basket 8; and quenching the workpieces to harden them. At this time, the workpieces 7 are immersed in the cooling liquid 2 which flows from the bottom part of the cooling tank 3 towards the bottom part 8a of the basket 8, in such a state that a distributor 9 which leads the cooling liquid 2 to a side face side of the basket 8 covers at least the bottom part 8a of the basket 8.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for oil-quenching steel, which marquenches the steel in a state of immersing a workpiece in a quenching tank without raising it from the quenching tank, and to provide an apparatus therefor.
      SOLUTION: This oil-quenching apparatus includes the quenching tank 21 that is separated into two upper and lower tanks of which each temperature is controlled by a heater 7, a cooler 10 and the like, by a partition 5 having a partition opening 5a. The oil-quenching method comprises: immersing an article 2 to be treated which has been kept at a predetermined quenching temperature, into a hot section (upper tank) 3 located at an upper part inside the quenching tank, through an upper opening 21a of the quenching tank, by using an elevator 6 to quench it; moving it to a lower part inside the quenching tank to further cool it in a cold section (a lower tank) 4 located at a lower part inside the quenching tank 4; and further moving it toward the upper part inside the quenching tank to take it out from the quenching tank. The method also comprises stirring a cooling medium (a quenching oil) in the upper tank with a stirring device 8a when quenching the article to be treated in the upper tank, and stirring a cooling medium in the lower tank with a stirring device 8b when cooling it in the lower tank. The apparatus also has a guide plate or guide ducts 12 and 13 for stirring the quenching oil installed each in the upper tank and the lower tank; and further has an opening/closing device 31 installed between the upper and lower tanks.
