    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water shut-off material capable of sufficiently exhibiting water shutting-off performance in a short time.
      SOLUTION: The water shut-off material contains a solid component containing bentonite and a liquid having a hydrophobic property. When water intrudes into a clearance formed between a plurality of bentonite particles 1 and filled with the hydrophobic liquid, the hydrophobic liquid in the clearance 2 is easily pushed out by water without being mixed therewith, and the hydrophobic liquid in the clearance 2 is replaced by water. Thereby, the bentonite particle 1 is contacted with water in a short time from intrusion of water. Accordingly, the water shut-off material can exhibit the water shutting-off performance in a short time as compared with the conventional water shut-off material in which the bentonite particle 1 is started to be swelled after the hydrophilic liquid near the bentonite particle 1 is sufficiently diluted.
