    • PURPOSE: To provide a new aziridine compound having trifluoromethyl group and useful as a raw material for physiologically active substances such as pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals and functional organic compounds such as liquid crystals, surfactants, dyes and optical resolution agents. CONSTITUTION: This aziridine compound having trifluoromethyl group is expressed by formula I (R1 is H, an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, an alicyclic hydrocarbon group, an aromatic hydrocarbon group or a group produced by substituting one or more carbon atoms of the above hydrocarbon groups with hetero atoms selected from among O, S and N), especially an optically active compound of formula II (C labeled with * is an asymmetric center carbon atom), e.g. N-benzyl-2-trifluoromethylaziridine. The compound of formula I can be produced by the cyclization reaction of a compound of formula III with a compound of formula IV (R2 is an alkyl, an aryl or an aralkyl; X is a halogen) in the presence of a base. The compound of formula II is produced by the cyclization reaction of a compound of formula V with the compound of formula IV.

    • PURPOSE:To suppress production of a by-product such as carbonyl compound and obtain the title compound useful as a raw material for medicine, agricultural chemical, etc., in high selectivity and yield by subjecting an alkanolamine to intramolecular dehydration reaction in vapor phase using a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An alkanolamine expressed by formula I (X is OH or NH2; Y is NH2 when X is OH; Y is OH when X is NH2; R is R, CH3 or C2H5) is subjected to vapor phase intramolecular dehydration reaction in the presence of a catalyst obtained by combining an acidic oxide such as silicon oxide with an oxide of alkali(earth) metal such as Ba(OH)2, having an acid point having function (Ho) of acid base strength of 4.0-7.0 and basic point having function (Ho) of acid base strength of 7.0-9.3 and having a catalyst composition expressed by the formula Si1Ba0.3 at 10-500 deg.C under ordinary pressure, reduced pressure or pressure at space velocity of 100-30000hr to provide the aimed compound expressed by formula II such as ethylene imine useful as a raw material for amine based polymer which is a fiber treating agent.
