    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing dimethyl ether from biomass wherein a natural gas or the like need not be freshly added, and the produced tar can be fully utilized.
      SOLUTION: The method is one for producing dimethyl ether from biomass by thermochemically decomposing the biomass to form hydrogen and carbon monoxide and synthesizing dimethyl ether by using them and comprises the biomass gasification step of reacting the biomass with steam to thermochemically decompose it, the tar conversion step of converting the tar contained in the hydrogen-carbon monoxide mixed gas produced in the biomass gasification step into hydrogen and carbon monoxide with the steam over a tar conversion catalyst, and the dimethyl ether synthesis step of synthesizing dimethyl ether by reacting the hydrogen-carbon monoxide mixed gas replenished with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the tar conversion step over a dimethyl ether synthesis catalyst.
