    • PURPOSE:To make a catalyst hard to be poisoned by volatile metal oxide, by a method wherein the kneading operation of hydrogen type zeolite and an aqueous solution containing a copper salt of an org. acid under heating is repeated and the resulting kneaded mixture is baked to obtain zeolite having a copper ion present therein at high concn. and titanium oxide is kneaded with said zeolite before baking. CONSTITUTION:For example, as a raw material of copper, a copper salt of an org. acid such as copper acetate or copper formate is used and dissolved in water to form an aqueous solution which is, in turn, added to hydrogen type mordenite and, when the resulting mixture is mixed at 80-100 deg.C, copper is substituted with hydrogen in mordenite to be taken therein and the org. acid is liberated. When mixing operation is repeated, not only the org. acid being liberated is scattered but also moisture is scattered by heating and entire copper in the solution is taken in mordenite. Titanium oxide is kneaded with mordenite supporting copper obtained by drying and baking by a wet system and the kneaded substance thus obtained is formed into a granular or honeycomb like shape and baked to obtain a desired catalyst.
