    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning an exhaust combustion gas, capable of effectively reducing the content of nitrogen oxide in the exhaust combustion gas in which nitrogen oxide (NOx) and sulfur oxide (SOx) are present in high concentrations and which has a temperature as low as 300°C or below, for example, a combustion gas discharged from an engine for ships, and also to provide a denitration catalyst.SOLUTION: A method for cleaning an exhaust combustion gas includes removing nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas by bringing the exhaust gas to which an alcohol is added as a reducing agent into contact at a temperature of 180-300°C with a denitration catalyst prepared by making a sodium-type zeolite carry cobalt. The sodium-type zeolite has an acid strength corresponding to a Hammett acidity function Ho of -7 or less. The reducing agent is preferably isopropyl alcohol, ethanol or methanol; and the sodium-type zeolite is preferably a ZSM-5 (MFI) type or mordenite (MOR) type zeolite.
