    • To provide an image reading apparatus enabling a long light source inside the image reading apparatus to be uniformly cooled in the main scanning direction with a simplified structure without increasing the number of components of the apparatus. An image reading apparatus having an optical reader section that has a long light source along the main scanning direction to read an original, a first holding section that holds the light source, a second holding section adjacent to the first holding section on the side surface side in the sub-scanning direction orthogonal to the main scanning direction of the first holding section, and a partition disposed between the first holding section and the second holding section, where in the partition are formed a first ventilating opening comprised of one or more openings for air inside the first holding section to move to the inside of the second holing section, and second ventilating openings comprised of a plurality of openings provided in the main scanning direction for the air inside the second holding section to move to the inside of the first holding section.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which can uniformly cool a long light source inside the image reader in a main scanning direction in a simple structure without increasing the number of components of the device.
      SOLUTION: This image reader comprises: an optical read means provided with a long light source 341 along the main scanning direction; a first accommodating part A for accommodating the optical read means; a second accommodating part B adjacent to the side face in a sub-scanning direction perpendicular to the main scanning direction of the first accommodating part via the first accommodating part A and a diaphragm 31A; and a ventilating means 41 for transferring air between the first accommodating part A and the second accommodating part B. The diaphragm 31A includes a first vent hole comprising one or a plurality of openings for moving the air in the first accommodating part A to the second accommodating part B, and a second vent hole comprising a plurality of openings provided in the diaphragm 31A in the main scanning direction, for moving the air in the second accommodating part B to the first accommodating part A.
