A first reading unit (11) reads an image on a side of the first document held by the holding surface (15), and reads an image on the first side of the second document being conveyed by the conveyor unit (31-34). A second reading unit (12) is disposed above the second contact surface (18) and reads an image on the second side of the second document. The second reading unit (12) is disposed not to overlap the first reading unit (11) in an up down direction.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device which makes it possible to share a motor in an ADF mode and an FB mode and drive document transport and read in either the normal or the reverse rotation direction of the motor without avoiding increase in cost.SOLUTION: The image reading device comprises: a read unit including a movable sensor; a first read mechanism for reading a document placed on a document holder by moving the read unit; a second read mechanism for reading the document by transporting the document to the read unit; a common drive source for driving the first read mechanism and the second read mechanism; a transmission unit for transmitting drive forces from the drive source to the first read mechanism and the second read mechanism, respectively; and a switching unit for changing the direction of rotation of the second read mechanism in which it is driven to normal or reverse against the drive source which rotates in one direction. The switching unit operates according to the movement of the read unit.

The switch gear is switched to a carriage side position (FB side position) where a motor side transmission gear and a carriage side transmission gear which transmits power to a carriage are connected, and to a transportation part side position (ADF side position) where the motor side transmission gear and a transportation part side transmission gear which transmits power to the transportation part transporting a manuscript are connected. The control part executes prediction processing (steps S31, S32) which predicts whether or not a transportation part reading (ADF reading) mode for reading the manuscript transported by the transportation part before accepting an image reading start instruction by a reading part and switch processing (step S34) for switching the switch gear to the transportation part side position when it is predicted that the transportation part reading mode is executed.

摘要： A rear side surface of a frame of an image-forming apparatus has throttle portions protruding toward the inside of the frame. By aligning the screw holes in the throttle portions and the through-holes in a guide rail and then screwing screws into these holes, the guide rail is fixed to the rear side surface with a predetermined distance therebetween. This restricts deformation of the guide rail due to a load applied by opening and closing the document holding plate.

摘要： An image sensor reads an image from a document sheet disposed on a document holding portion of a platen glass while the image sensor is moving along the platen glass in a predetermined direction or reads an image from a document sheet fed by a document feeder while the image sensor is stopped at the image reading position. A discharge guide member guides a document sheet which has passed the image reading position in a direction downstream from the platen glass. A sliding mechanism slides a first plate that faces the document holding portion selectively between a first position and a second position along the platen glass in a sliding direction parallel to the predetermined direction. The image reading position is within the document holding portion. The first plate, when in the first position, covers the image reading position, and the first plate, when in the second position, is separated from the image reading position.
