    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform water jet peening in a suitable execution state, by keeping a fixed distance between a jet nozzle and a machined surface and smoothly moving the jet nozzle.SOLUTION: A water jet peening device is provided with a jet nozzle 8 movably along a predetermined track so as to turn upward and downward a jet port 8a of the jet nozzle 8 for injecting a water jet. The water jet peening device includes: a guiding portion 10 disposing a tip end portion 10a according to a predetermined distance in which the water jet is injected from the jet port, and provided so as to move along the moving track with the jet nozzle; a pressing moving mechanism 9 for pressing and moving the jet nozzle and the guiding portion in a direction for injecting the water jet from the jet port; nozzle position detecting means 15e for detecting the moving position of the jet port on the moving track; and controlling means 20 for controlling the pressing force of the guiding portion 10 by the pressing moving mechanism 9, on the basis of the moving position of the jet port detected by the nozzle position detecting means.
