摘要： An optical disc has a read-only system lead-in area and a recordable data area. Disc boundary information representing a boundary in a radial direction of an area on which capability of recording at a predetermined recording speed is guaranteed is recorded on the system lead-in area while being related to each tuple speed. An optical disc device, upon user's instruction of tuple-speed recording, compares the boundary information related to the instructed tuple speed with a present recording position, performs recording at the instructed tuple speed if the present recording position is on the outside of the boundary, and performs recording at a tuple speed lower than the instructed tuple speed if the present recording position is on the inside of the boundary.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve performance of writing data with a small block size or file size to a tape cartridge.SOLUTION: A tape cartridge 2 is provided with a magnetic tape 4 and a nonvolatile semiconductor memory 5. A comparison part 11 compares the transmission speed of data that is transmitted from a host machine to a tape drive device 1, with a speed threshold value. A speed determination part 12 determines the speed of writing data to the tape cartridge according to the result of the comparison. A data write part 13 writes data to the magnetic tape 4 provided for the tape cartridge 2 if the transmission speed is faster then the speed threshold value; and writes subsequent data, which follows the data written to the magnetic tape 4, to the nonvolatile semiconductor memory 5 provided for the tape cartridge 2 if the transmission speed is slower than the speed threshold value.

摘要： In an optical disk drive that is equipped with a binarization circuit by the PRML method and carries out record/reproduction at a speed higher than a standard speed, to realize reproduction compatibility between the drive and another optical disk drive by the ordinarily adopted direct slice method. It can be realized by applying verification judgment equivalent to reproduction at a standard speed in accordance with a reproduction speed. More specifically, it is realized by counting 2 T data number by the direct slice method, using a Viterbi decoder that validates a run length shorter than the minimum run length, and adopting other measures. A higher record/reproduction speed is realized while reproduction compatibility, which is an important original function of an interchangeable optical disk, is secured.
