SOLUTION: The optical disc apparatus executes both operations of writing data on the optical disc 10 and reading data recorded on the optical disc 10. The drive includes a motor 12 for rotating the optical disc 10, an optical pickup 14 for radiating an optical beam to the optical disc 10 and detecting reflected light from the optical disc 10, an evaluation section 16 for obtaining a distortion evaluation value of a signal waveform in the reflected light by detecting the reflected light from a data recording part on the optical disc 10 by the optical pickup 14 when rotating the optical disc 10 by the motor 12, and a controller 18 for changing the rotation number per unit time of the optical disc 10 if the variation of the distortion evaluation value during a single rotation of the optical disc 10 exceeds a threshold when rotating the optical disc 10 by the motor 12.
