    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage device which achieves both reduction of processing time for accessing a system area and improvement of reliability.
      SOLUTION: The data storage device comprises a recording medium having a plurality of system data recording areas in which system data is multiply recorded and user data recording area, a head for writing data into the recording medium and reading data from the recording medium, and a system data update controlling section for making the head update the system data on the recording medium, divides a plurality of the system data recording areas respectively into two sub recording areas to multiply record the new system data into one of the sub recording areas alternately selected at every time when the new system data is updated, and checks if recording is correctly made by reading the new system data from the sub recording area.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate data loss in error recovery when a management apparatus manages disk devices different in control unit.
      SOLUTION: Data of a disk device D1 for managing/controlling reading and writing by LBA wherein 512 bytes are set as one block are mirrored by a display device D2. A storage management apparatus 10 controls access to the disk devices D1, D2 by LBA wherein 520 bytes are set as one block. A difference of the control units is solved by converting addresses by a control unit conversion part 12. Further when error recovery is executed, an address of an area in which data loss is generated due to exclusion from repair target by address conversion for recovery is registered in a data loss management table 14. In a succeeding patrol, the data loss management table 14 is referred to and an error in the address is reported and recovered to eliminate the data loss.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoding/decoding device which corrects errors by concatenated codes of an ECC code and a parity code to prevent an increase in the circuit scale and to improve error correction performance. SOLUTION: Provided are encoders (235, 234), which create a concatenation type encoded data by interleaving a data string into a plurality of blocks at every m (m≥2) bit, adding a parity of an error correcting code and adding a parity bit at every predetermined number (m×n) of bits, to prevent an increase in the circuit scale even if the data string is interleaved into a plurality of blocks, and a parity of error correcting code is generated. Also provided are ECC decoding circuits (230, 227, 233) which correct an ECC decoded data string using the likeliness of a soft output decoder and parity check result, so a deterioration of correction performance can also be prevented.
