    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet mass measuring apparatus which can increase throughput and measure the weight of a paper sheet with high precision.
      SOLUTION: The mass measuring apparatus 10 includes two drive rollers 2U, 2L which are arranged spaced apart from each other in the vertical direction crossing the transfer direction of mail. Torque detectors 8U, 8L are connected to servo motors 6U, 6L which rotate the rollers 2U, 2L, respectively. A control unit controls motor controllers 7U, 7L so that the drive rollers are provided with a speed difference to allow mail during transfer to rotate on its axis and detects the rotating torque of the servo motors 6U, 6L through the torque detectors 8U, 8L. The control unit measures the mass of the mail through an arithmetic unit by comparing the detected rotating torque to rotating torque during idling.

      SOLUTION: The weight detection apparatus includes a conveying mechanism 10 conveying a medium P to be detected at a predetermined speed along a conveying path 11; a transducer 42 detecting a kinetic energy of the detection medium conveyed by the conveying mechanism, and converting the detected kinetic energy into a measurable physical quantity; and an operation portion calculating the weight of the detection medium, on the basis of the physical quantity converted by the transducer and the predetermined speed.
