    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire that is superior in durability and productivity and that achieves weight reduction.SOLUTION: The pneumatic tire includes: a bead portion; a side wall portion; a tread portion; a carcass for reinforcing the bead portion, the side wall portion and the tread portion; and at least one belt layer. A steel cord 10 constituting the belt layer has two untwisted core filaments 11, and six sheath filaments 12 are twisted together around a core. An average distance D between the sheath filaments 12, which is in the range of 25-80 μm, is expressed by the following formula: D=[L-6ds{1+(L/p)}]/6 (where L=(π+2)dc+πds). In the formula, dc represents a diameter of the core filament; ds represents a diameter of the sheath filament; and p (mm) represents a twist pitch of the sheath filament 12. A cap layer having nonmetallic cords disposed in parallel in the circumferential direction of the tire is provided on the tire-radius-direction outside of the belt layer, and/or layers are provided in both end areas of the belt layer, respectively.
