    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing liquid crystal polyester by which a molding having an improved mechanical strength is obtained.SOLUTION: The method for producing liquid crystal polyester includes: a step of mixing 70.5 to 71.5 mol% of a compound represented by the formula (I) and 28.5 to 29.5 mol% of a compound represented by the formula (II) and subjecting mixed compounds to polycondensation in temperature conditions of 260 to 350°C till the flow beginning temperature of a prepolymer reaches a temperature that is 200°C or more and is at least 30°C lower than the reaction temperature of polycondensation; a step of recovering the prepolymer in a fusion state, solidifying the recovered prepolymer and grinding the prepolymer into particles having a particle size of 3 mm or less; and a step of subjecting the particles to solid-phase polymerization in temperature conditions of 200 to 310°C under circulation of inactive gas.
